Today’s writing task involves using our imagination.

You live in Niue, and one morning you look out to the water, and a strange object appears to be floating towards shore. You investigate, and to your complete disbelief, it’s a UFO, and inside, an Alien.

The alien seems friendly so you spend the day showing the Alien around your home, your family, your school.

In your recount, I’d like you to write about what that day would look like.

What did you guys do?

What did you teach them about Niue?

How did the Alien react to new things?

What did the Alien think about Niue?

Begin your writing here:if I lived in Niue I would wake up and get Straight in the sea. I would go on a waka in the sea get flowers and make lots of things and play with my sisters.

In the film we take a look inside Riley’s brain and discover she is actually being controlled by her Emotions,

Joy, Sadness, Disgust, Anger, and Fear. In-fact, those same Emotions are controlling the minds of her father, and her mother too. They must be inside all of us!

Design Task - Moana (Wednesday W10, T3)

Writing Task - Moana (T3 W10)

 ~ Moana ~

Moana is a story that takes place around the beautiful Pacific, centered around a young princess, Moana, and the mischievous demigod Maui.

Your task today is to use METAPHORICAL language to describe the people, and places from the movie.Metaphorical language means that we have made a comparison between the thing we are describing,

 and something we all recognise.

Let’s look at 3  different types of metaphorical language…

Type of Metaphorical Language

How we use it

Example

What I really mean.

METAPHOR

A metaphor is when you say something IS something else.

“Mr Hughes is a teddy bear”

This means Mr Hughes is friendly, and cuddly.

SIMILE

A simile is when you say something is LIKE or AS something else.

“Mr Hughes is as ugly as a crushed pineapple”

Mr Hughes looks like a crushed pineapple

PERSONIFICATION

A personification gives human qualities to something non-human.

“The wind whistled through the trees”

The noise of the wind sounded like somebody whistling.

Your job is to use METAPHORS, SIMILES, AND PERSONIFICATION to describe these things from the movie Moana.

Check the next page for the table you will be using.

Use 3 examples of Metaphorical Language to describe…

What do they look like?

How do they act/behave?

Moana is like a small Adventure

it means she likes to go on the ocean and travel

Maui is a big hard teddy bear

That means he is not a cuddly teddy bear but a hard teddy bear

hei hei  is Stupidity

let means he is Not that smart he does silly things

Sophie tea as like a big old grass that you can hug

That means she is a nice island Everyone wants a live on
