Writing - Te Whare Tapa Wha

 Te Whare Tapa Wha

Te Whare Tapa Wha is a concept we talk about a lot.

They are the 4 pillars of healthy living - Your physical (taha tinana), your mental (taha hinengaro), your spiritual (taha wairua), and your family/social (taha whanau) wellbeing.

Today we will be focusing on our Taha Tinana - Our physical wellbeing.

Choose ONE of these writing styles to use for your writing…

Narrative Writing

Instructional Writing

Opinion Writing

Your job is to tell a story of a young man named Tane, and his journey to leave unhealthy living behind, and get his family to exercise more so they can lead healthy lives.

Remember for opinion writing:

  • Structure (beginning, middle and end)

  • Descriptive language (to add detail, and make it interesting.

Your job is to write a step-by-step set of instructions for a work out students and their family would be able to complete at home during lockdown.

Remember for opinion writing:

  • Written in 2nd person tense (you, your, you’ll etc.)

  • Instructions are clear and easy to follow.

Your job is to write a couple of PEEL (point, example, explanation, link) paragraphs discussing the following statement…

“Exercise is something everyone should do”

You will either argue that it is, or that it is not.

Remember for opinion writing:

  • Make your arguments obvious, and clear at the start of each paragraph.

  • Your opinion is important, but make sure to back it up with examples, and evidence.
